The spin machine of the NYT does not stop. It describes the president’s latest immigration rule as an “assault on the nation’s immigration system” and as favoring “wealthier immigrants.” What does this rule require? That legal immigrants applying for permanent residency (Green Card) have to show that they can support themselves.
This is hardly an “assault” on our immigration system
When is it a sin for a nation to require that anyone seeking permanent legal status demonstrate that they can fend for themselves and not be a burden to the taxpayers and our Entitlement programs? Even the 1965 immigration law has the merit requirement built into. But, predictably, the liberal establishment conveniently ignored this aspect of the law for 50 years—until President Trump decided to give it its due and bring balance to our immigration laws.
Even Democrats—at the least the sane ones—admit that our Entitlement programs are being pushed beyond their limits. There is a consensus that we need more accountability from those who depend on those programs, as well as making a concerted effort—in order to save those programs (are you listening NYT?) — to not add more burden to the fragile social safety net.
This is hardly an “assault” on our immigration system. Only a person or newspaper blinded by its liberal commitments and willfully ignorant of our history and the facts would think that.
