Requiem for the Moderates Running for President

Now that two Democratic debates are over, it is becoming crystal clear that the socialist faction of the party led by Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are the clear-cut leaders of the pack.  Although Joe Biden was one of the winners of the second debate, the fact that the other candidates ganged up on him shows that it will be an uphill battle for him to even come close to the nomination (at least not as the presidential nominee).

Let’s call it death by attrition.

My early assessment is that a Democratic ticket that includes Biden, either as number 1 or 2, would be the best bet for the Dems in 2020.  Without Biden, the other viable candidates are so far out of the mainstream—even without AOC and Sanders—that I frankly do not see right now how any combination of them—and least of all a Warren-Sanders ticket—could come close to beating president Trump in 2020.

As Joe Delaney, Steve Bullock, John Hickenlooper, and Amy Klobuchar warned, if the leftists (aka, progressives, that is, Warren and Sanders—pushing for open borders, Green New Deal, and Medicare-for-all, among other things—win the nomination of the party, the victory of President Trump in 2020 is almost assured.  But we think Delaney or any the other moderates have any chance of getting the nomination?  If you do, dream on.

FYI, Hickenlooper has just withdrawn from the race; and Warren is now only 1 point behind Biden in the latest poll.

Folks, will Americans, even those in the Blue states, accept a Warren-Harris or a combination of Warren with anyone who is not Joe Biden—since I am convinced Warren will be the number 1 or 2 of the ticket?  I am almost 100% sure they will not.  Democrats are living in their own bubble to the degree that they themselves, with few exceptions, do not realize how far to the left the party has drifted.

Right now, it is the shadow of AOC and Sanders hovers over the entire party as presence and influence that will not go away.  They will not be denied, and that spells trouble for the Dems in 2020, no matter whom they put up against Trump.

May the moderates in the Democratic Party rest in peace.
